This innovative initiative stems from a unique partnership between Roastery 7, an artisan coffee roastery, and the Mindo Cloudforest Foundation, a nonprofit focused on conservation. You might wonder how it is possible for our coffee to be carbon negative. The answer lies in our approach. Producing and distributing just one pound of our coffee generates approximately 4 pounds of CO2. However, for every pound sold, we allocate a portion of the proceeds to support reforestation efforts in Ecuador’s Mindo Cloud Forest. These reforestation initiatives lead to planting trees that will eventually remove 54 pounds of CO2 from the atmosphere, resulting in a net gain—more CO2 is absorbed than emitted.

Our reforestation projects in the Northwestern Andes of Ecuador focus on planting native tree species in areas that have experienced significant deforestation. These trees play a crucial role in sequestering carbon, providing habitats for hundreds of local bird species, implementing effective soil conservation strategies, and aiding in the restoration of water tables. The Mindo Cloudforest Foundation collaborates closely with local landowners, creating job opportunities centered around the care and rehabilitation of the cloud forest.
